National Young Coaches Academy

Loughborough University

Friday 4th January 2013 – Sunday 6th January 2013

England Athletics is inviting young coaches to apply to be part of the National Young Coaches Academy, which will be held at Loughborough University in January 2013.

The Academy is organised by the Youth Sport Trust and provides a unique opportunity for you to work alongside other promising and aspiring young coaches aged between 14-19 years of age from the sports of Badminton, Basketball, Boccia, Football, Hockey, Rugby, Swimming, Table Tennis and Volleyball.

The purpose of the Academy is to help you to develop your coaching skills and inspire and motivate you to achieve your personal best. Over the course of the event, you will be supported to develop your personal coaching skills (communication, organisation, adaptability, compassion and honesty) and your ‘how to’ coaching skills (instruction, demonstration, observation, analysis, feedback and questioning). England Athletics will then provide support following the event around the ‘what’ to coach skills and further localised help through the Local Coach Development Programme, including assigning you with a coach mentor.

Throughout the three days, you will be challenged by top-level coaches and deliverers to really understand what it will take for you to develop and be the best coach you can. You will also have the opportunity to hear from coaches who are recognised as achieving great things in their sport.

It will be an exciting three days and at times you will be taken out of your comfort zone, but we are convinced that you will come away with a clearer understanding of the choices you might have to make to ensure that you can succeed in your sport, in your life and in your education.

Message from Rob

This is a great opportunity for our young coaches to attend the National Young Coaches Academy in January 2013, and we’re really keen that we encourage suitable candidates to apply for places ASAP.

I’m hoping the coaches can stay at Loughborough University (I’ve just made a request to EA for info on accommodation for the Academy), plus I will look at utilising DAN funds to cover the transport to Loughborough.

If you’d like any further info just see me on Wednesday at the club.

Kind Regards
