Currently we meet at our winter location – at 6.00pm every Tuesday in the ATS Car Park, Newham Road, Truro, TR1 2ST. Please wear hi-vis/light and/or reflective clothing.
(Our summer location is at Boscawen Park, Malpas Road, Truro.)
Are you training for the Race For Life, or maybe you want to start running for fun or regular exercise, but don’t know where to start?
We’ve got just the thing for you! We understand that you might not feel confident enough to join the club, but how about coming along to our Walk/Run group? It doesn’t matter if you’ve never run before, or if it was decades ago at school when you last put your trainers on: this group is especially for you.
We’re a small group of like-minded people, all of similar fitness levels and we meet once a week in the car park at Boscawen Park on Malpas Road in the summer or at ATS on Newham road in the winter. Both where the lie of the land is nice and flat!
We meet at 6pm on Tuesdays. The Group is organised by our very experienced Leader Adrian Tyas who can give any advice you might need prior to joining the group, for example on clothing, training shoes, meeting place, etc, but there’s also some information below. The TRC Walk/Run Group
- Safe and enjoyable non-competitive running experience for over 18s

- Summer/light evenings: Tuesday evenings at 6pm from Boscawen Car Park on Malpas Road, Truro.
- Winter/dark evenings: Tuesday evenings at 6pm meet in the car park of ATS Tyres on Newham Road, Truro. Directions – Go as if going to Tesco’s but get in right lane and go straight on past Tesco’s car Park, pass Skinner’s Brewery and then ATS is on your right.

Some Things A New Runner May Need To Know
What should I wear?
Wear either a reflective or light coloured / hi vis top so other people can see you. It’s a good idea to wear layers when the weather is not hot. Wear shorts or leggings and running shoes. It’s usually best to buy running shoes from a specialist retailer, such as PB Running in St Austell, where you can be given advice about the best kind of shoes for your running style.
We will all do a short warm up to hopefully prevent any injuries or muscle strains.
The surfaces we will be running on
In the summer we run on a riverside footpath that goes round the park and a section of pavement for a short distance. The footpath is usually a firm surface but can get muddy with puddles when there has been heavy rain.
In the winter we run on pavements around Truro. If you have a head torch, bring it as some parts of the city can be a bit dark, but don’t worry if you don’t have one.
Walk/Run is designed to be a safe, fun environment and a risk assessment has been carried out. We do run/jog/walk through a car park where care needs to be taken and there are often dogs being walked on the footpath. We try to make it a welcoming, social environment for people of all fitness levels and particularly welcome newcomers to running who can take part in this simple and achievable activity.
How far will I run?
This will depend on your aptitude and ability but we will look to run/jog for 3 minutes then walk or rest for one minute and eventually progress from there to hopefully run/jog for about 30 minutes. The total distance covered in one night is not likely to be more than 3 miles. The good news is it’s flat! The weekly sessions will be varied to make it more enjoyable. You will be encouraged to develop progressively each week. However, you will not be pressurised to do anything you are not comfortable with.
Cool down and stretches
We will cool down by walking for about 5 minutes at the end of the session and then do some basic stretches.
Where and when do we Meet
Summer: We meet at 6.00pm every Tuesday in the Car Park at Boscawen Park, Malpas Road , Truro.
Winter: We meet at 6.00pm every Tuesday at ATS in Newham Road, Truro.
The whole session lasts about 45 minutes.
