A TRC event organised by Richard Wilson. Not a race, but an an ideal opportunity to blow away the Christmas cobwebs – and New Year’s Eve hangovers!
It’s a well signed informal run of about 7 miles, starting at The Jamaica Inn, signposted just off the A30 on Bodmin Moor. The run is mostly on open moorland, which may be wet, slippery, boggy or frozen, and it’s steep in places. Even when it doesn’t feel too cold at Jamaica Inn, it may be freezing and blowing a hooly on the top of Brown Willy. Please come appropriately clothed and shod. Although it’s for all standards of runner, it is for runners, not strollers, and we will slowly start to dismantle the course from the top of Brown Willy at about 12.00, following the last runners back to Jamaica Inn by about 13.00.
There is no entry fee, just a request to consider a generous donation in our charity box. Half the proceeds will be going to the Cornwall Search & Rescue Team, who turn out every year to ensure our safety. Registration is just inside the pub next to the car park. Please register before the run by filling out your name and emergency contact number, then tick the ‘Out’ box, and on your return, please just tick the ‘Back’ box, so that we know you’re safe.
Jamaica Inn generously open their doors to us, and I would ask everyone to be considerate, and change out of muddy footwear and clothing before coming back into the pub. A warm welcome will await you by the crackling log fire in the front bar, and you can compare notes with friends over a pint or a meal.
In short, it’s the perfect way to start the New Year. A Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year to you all.

Any one planning to run this?
I might…..
I am!
I plan to do it this year
With or without a hangover Andy?!!
I wouldn’t be anywhere else on New Year’s Day! If you don’t fancy running, take a stroll on the moor and help with a bit of easy marshalling, or stay in the warm at the pub, and give a hand with registration. I reckon this is the ultimate Rave Run. Great scenery, brilliant atmosphere, and the perfect hangover cure! Start the New Year with a bang, not a whimper! Then meet up afterwards by the log fire in the bar for a chat with your friends.
I will be driving down from Yeovil to run, is it still a turn up and run even? Just tried emailing Richard but the email failed!!!
Yes Ian, it is – just come and register at The Jamaica Inn 🙂
Also, apologies for the email (I’d typed it in with a space…), it should be working fine now!
Thanks Stephie
Just had email returned!!! Doh!!
Without a hangover Steph. Might even try tea total for the first 3 months of 2012!
I’ll see you there bight eyed and bushy tailed then!
how far is it?
it’s ok have found the details on Tamar Trotters site – sounds great!
Ooops, now that’s embarrassing!!!
I may well turn up with daughter for my first attempt at this run…..then again the log fire sounds tempting!
ANY NICE MEN RUNNING?
Hana’s the one to ask about ‘man in lycra’!!! And if there are…you might have to join a queue!
who put that remark about nice men running? wasn’t me – think I’ve been fraped! Cant delete it either
who put this in about the nice men – wasn’t me! have been fraped!
This was my first time but certainly not my last! There were 5 of us from Bodmin Roadrunners. I can honestly say I have never laughed so much! The atmosphere was fantastic and the sense of “being in it together” was palpable! To the guy who started out with me, with a white dog and finished with me, with a black dog, thank you for the encouragement!!!! See you next year!
